Kris Flora spent Friday preparing for a party at Sweet Art of Mine, the gallery she and her husband, Tom,
opened on Tylers Corner Drive.

"Everyone wants to know if we're going to have an opening," she said Friday. "Tonight's just a party to
thank everyone who has supported me."

Flora planned a Monday opening for the gallery, which features contemporary art from local artists and
limited edition lithographs and original works from Pablo Picasso, Lisandro Lopez, Salvador Dali and
Peter Max.

Many of the pieces in the gallery emphasize color, texture and motion over more traditional scenes. West
Chester Twp. artist Bren Reisch, whose abstract work is showing at the gallery, said she thinks the
selection will be well received.

"I'm finding more and more, people in West Chester are calling me to ask where abstract art is showing,"
she said.

"People are becoming more trendsetting and are starting to pull more of what they see outside into their
homes."

"I think people are getting a better understanding of the beauty in these pieces of art," said Ben Dibble,
co-founder of Children's Performing Arts of Lakota.

Flora noted she moved her collection of art books to the gallery and is providing seating for browsing
patrons.

"I want people to come in and learn about it," she said, adding that she plans to have "meet the artist"
events on Fridays. She said she wants artists to learn about the gallery, too, but for a different reason.

"I think a lot of artists will come in and see the art and think, 'My stuff might be good enough to hang up
here,'" she said. Flora said a consignment schedule will rotate art through the gallery on a regular basis,
making room alongside the masters.

"You're not going to see the same thing every time you walk in," she said.

Sweet Art of Mine is located at 7334 Tylers Corner Drive in Tylersville Station. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
